The Dalai Lama escaped from Lhasa to prevent his arrest by Chinese Police. He came to India and was granted political asylum. He set up his abode at Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh. The Dalai Lama and the Tibet government in exile are located here. Dharamshala is a quaint hill station nestled in the Himalayan foothills and has the residence of the Dalai Lama and many Temples and a monastery.

The Laurel Festival is an annual event held in mid-June at Winsted, Connecticut that lasts for three days culminating with the crowning of a laurel queen at the end of a parade down Main Street that is held in the Down East Park.
